Office Yoga for Teachers

Post Author: ITLSIG Member, Dr Fahimeh Farjami

This blog post provides a summary of three presentations given by international academics during the “International Teaching & Learning Special Interest Group” online meeting on February 19th 2022.

The first presentation called “Office Yoga for Teachers” was given by Fahimeh Farjami, PhD holder in TEFL and Yoga Certified Teacher from Turkey. The content composed of three main parts including introduction to yoga concept and its importance in academic life, physical postures and breathing meditation. In her presentation, she indicated possible postures of body smoothly in a top-down order starting from head and then shoulders and chest. Postures related to legs and feet were shown at the end. Fahimeh ended the presentation by a five-minute breathing meditation. Below are some screenshots taken during the session (feel free to contact us if you would like Fahimeh to share all the presentation slides with you):

As a non-deniable part of the meeting, cultural discussion was presented by Dr Xia Zhu based in the UK who shared her amazing cultural experiences in Kenya. This not only provided the group with valuable information about Nairobi, Maasai Mara Safari and Naivasha lake, but also delicately presented detailed information on Safari, animal species and other natural beauties of this amazing country via pictorial discussion on a power-point. Some screenshot images are shown below:

The final and most significant presentation of the day was about Research Opportunities. In her remarkable presentation, Josephine Deguara based in Malta explored the different research activities that group members can engage with. This includes peer-review of papers, preparing conference papers, establishing reading groups and writing book chapters.

The group intends to support its members to develop research knowledge and skills in their different disciplines as well as across disciplines. One tangible project that we are focusing on is the writing of an edited book focusing on international perspectives on teaching, learning and assessment. Watch the space!
